The Picture of Health

Whether you’re expecting a baby or have gynecologic health concerns, Advanced Women’s Health Specialists ultrasound services provide the answers you need. Our highly trained sonographers perform ultrasounds for many female health needs. Using state-of-the art 3-D ultrasounds, they deliver safe, painless, effective ultrasounds for women of all ages.

What is Ultrasound?

Ultrasounds have been used since the 1950s. An ultrasound uses high frequency sound waves to produce a real-time picture of a fetus or the inside of the uterus. The equipment has three basic elements: 1) a real-time scanner that projects a picture of your baby or uterus onto a 2) monitor; and 3) a transducer which emits sound waves and, when moved across your abdomen, scans an image of your baby or uterus. A transvaginal probe also uses ultrasound technology. It can detect ectopic pregnancies, uterine fibroids, cysts and other abnormalities.

Why Should I Have an Ultrasound?

Ultrasounds are a painless, safe, noninvasive way to monitor the development and health of your unborn child, to detect the sex of your baby and to find out if you are carrying more than one baby. If you have female health problems, an ultrasound provides your gynecologist with valuable information to help create a treatment plan.
